THEATRICAL REEL
My favorite game as a kid was “playing pretend” . . . and I never stopped. Acting is both cathartic and fun. For me, it’s also a meaningful way to express my empathetic nature. I grew up internationally and have always been a keen observer. Acting began as a way of getting my yayas out, expressing what I felt, observed, and took in.
I acted in plays from an early age and began my professional acting career when I was a teenager in Tokyo, working in commercials and substituting for a regular cast member on an English instruction program on NHK (Japan’s PBS, or BBC).
From there it went. I’ve won acting awards for my roles in both theatre and film, and received a Los Angeles Times Theatre Critics’ Pick for the two-person, full-length play, Square One, in which I played one of the leads.
